Series: Gundam Wing

"Have you ever killed anyone before, Miss Catalonia?"

"I've seen men die before."

"That doesn't answer my question. Have you, personally, ever killed anyone?"

"Will the answer be held against me?" The smug expression was maintained as if the response wouldn't matter either way.

"No. But please keep eye contact with me."

"I have no problem with doing that." A pause, the smile remained.

"So then..."

"I fought a fencing duel with a boy once. He tried to pretend to believe in pacifism. I ran him through and we continued to debate even as he bled into unconsciousness."

"And such a thing didn't bother you?"

"We were in a war. We were both fighting as we saw fit."

"Do you believe you were justified in wounding him?"

"Yes. It was an example that a pacifist's talk will never be stronger than a physical action."

"Having gotten your point across, was there any other reason you left him as he was?"

"No."

"Other than that incident, was there any other occasion when you actually killed someone? Truly experienced it?"

"No." A flippant tone, expression again unconcerned.

"If you don't mind my asking, Miss Catalonia, why do you feel the way you do toward pacifism?"

"I don't mind. I was raised to understand and appreciate the finer elements of war. My father was a general and my mother was an aristocrat whose own father was a military leader. It's in my blood, and even though I was allowed to learn other views I came to my own conclusions about the superiority of battle and mankind's destiny to fight."

"Is that the only destiny, in your opinion?"

"Yes. It's the only way human beings can exist. They must show how they feel about their ideals, not just talk about them. Battle makes the reality of the situation clear before everyone's eyes."
