[21 Mar. 2007] [D. Gray-Man] She Never Wanted A Broken Doll, Just a Best Friend
Title: She Never Wanted a Broken Doll, Just a Best Friend
Day/Theme: 21 Mar. 2007--You just shed a little blood, and a lot of people shed a lot of tears
Series: D. Gray-Man
Character/Pairing: Lenalee and Allen, Ravi appears briefly
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Mention of suicide attempt, very oblique mention of masturbation
Notes: I don't own the characters or the series. This is a follow-up to my last fic posted here... takes place after certain key events. They're in Edo. Allen still can't quite remember most of the people he used to know. What can I say, writing Allen-who-isn't-himself-but-still-is is a fun challenge.
"Lenalee, were we lovers?"
It's him and yet it's not. The face is the same, the Innocence is just a little different, and yet somehow the soul inside this body can't be Allen.
Allen would know the answer to that question. Allen would have made a light joke about saving her for once.
This isn't Allen.
"I mean... I don't remember much about you. I know I must have cared about you, to even remember your name." He blushes. "And, well... there are other things I remember. You cared enough to hit me when I was about to do something very stupid, to take care of me when I was sick, 'least I think that was what was going on, and... I... I thought about you while I... sinned."
Definitely isn't Allen. He'd never have been able to stammer that last sentence out, and even if he had mentioned that he wouldn't have called it a sin.
"We weren't, but given the chance I would have loved to have been."
He looks lost in thought, as though he's just remembered something more. "Really?" he asks, voice faint and distant. "You know, it was you I thought of after I did something stupid, back there."
"What did you do?" she asks warily.
He looks down (so like Allen and yet hearttwistingly not because he would look her in the eyes when he said something horrible). "I tried to die, just to see what it felt like. I was... I was pretty messed up. Worse than now, even!" He looks up and tries to smile (God why? Why him? Why did he have to end up like this?); it looks hollow.
She can't reply, her voice is stuck balled up in her throat, so she leans forwards and hugs him.
Ravi clears his throat. "So, beansprout, now that you've got a girlfriend can we get on with finding General Cross?"
"Sure," (not)Allen replies calmly. "Your hair was longer... what happened?" he asks Lenalee, totally unconcerned.
Ravi makes a few choking noises, and crashes to the ground in a shocked heap.
Lenalee smiles. That's one thing she won't miss, Allen's borderline-psychotic fear of his teacher. "It's a long story, and he's right, we should go."
