There was this: her dreams had always been vivid. She remembered events that had felt so real that the only way that she knew they were merely dreams was that no one ever mentioned them, and conversations no one ever admitted to remembering.

By the end of her third year of middle school, she had grown out of believing that what happened in her dreams really happened.

Dreams were dreams, and that was that.

So when she woke from that dream, with the memory of Kyon’s lips on hers, it was so easy to dismiss it. After all, he would say something, wouldn’t he, if they really had kissed—right? It wasn’t the kind of thing that one dismissed.

But…

As much as it hurt to believe…

Just this once, she thought, reaching for a hairband as she gathered her hair back.

He had said he liked ponytails, after all.
