This wasn't how things were supposed to be. I'm walking with Alma down the street and I see a shirt in the window of Woolworth's and think that would bring out the color of your eyes. I sway in the dappled shade and smell you there. Your smell and the smells of beer and of cigarettes and of summer evenings and of cut grass all border on each other in my brain. When I bury myself into her it's you I feel. Everything relates to you, a man, a man I love, a man I shouldn't have let in, not ever, but who sank inside and stuck there.
