[2-Oct-2006] [Original] Spacewalk
Title: Spacewalk
Day/Theme: hello darkness my old friend (2 Oct. 2006)
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Alri Aborin
Rating: G
"Okay, welcome to Vacuum Basics. Today, we're finally going out into the void. You've all been practicing in the airlock, so you should be familiar with your suits. Now, if you'll follow me -- I'm the one in the black helmet. Yes, it's hard to tell humanoids apart in suits.
"Now that we're outside, everyone take out your spare line and clip it to something. Then press the button on your suit -- the left one -- to withdraw the line we set in the airlock. Always keep one line on the ship. Period. End of story. We've got backup if you go floating off, but I'd rather not use it.
"Now, if I can direct your attention away from the ship, check out the view."
While her students looked around, Alri watched them, switching off the mic in her helmet. She counted at least two people hanging onto their lines for dear life, and three more refusing to look up. Motion at the corner of her eye showed that someone hadn't fastened his line, and she would need to call for pickup. "It's like teaching a bunch of toddlers."
