Ligaia, despite its generally flat appearance, was further north and generally more raised than Messina. The snow lasted longer here than in Messina and before any being had walked through it, churning up the mud of the road, it appeared pure and soft, an elaborate icing decorating the landscape. Although Sir Seif was not especially keen on how wet it made him, he liked the snow. Its presence gave him the sensation that the entire world was sleeping, calm and peaceful. He wished it was not only an illusion and that the nations could be as tranquil as they currently looked to be.

"Seif, are we gonna get moving?" Leila asked, staring into his big blank eyes.

"Oh! Ah, yes! Of- of course!" he spluttered. He took a large step forward and sunk down into the snow. He cringed at the dampness of snow trickling into his boots.

The others were faring about equally well in their movements through the slush. Leila strode quickly and resolutely, hands clasped behind her back. Just a little ahead of her were Kiralesca and Ginjo, whose lighter footwear was making them rather miserable. The trailing ends of Kira's sash were dark from the wetness. Tetsu's messy hair practically seemed to droop. Rowan led the way, trying his best to plow a path for the rest of the travelers. He was relatively unconcerned about the conditions. Seif wondered if his black armor would rust.

"What does it look like around here in the spring or summer?" the Cambrian inquired as Seif caught up to walk beside him.

"Beautiful," Seif said simply and precisely before going on to describe the sights more clearly. "The hills are gold and green with a myriad of native grasses, they're sprinkled with pink daisies and red poppies in the summer. The sky is usually a smooth tone of pale blue, but when the wind blows, wispy clouds slide down from the mountains to twist and swirl across the horizon. In the early morning, deer come out of the forest near the border to nibble the plants, and throughout the day you can see finches and sparrows searching for seeds. The trails are packed hard and if it's been a dry year, they're dusty. A few travelers might be coming around that bend in the distance."

"How picturesque," Rowan smiled thoughtfully.

"What an enemy!" Leila laughed, "To wax poetic about this country of ours!"

Seif shrugged, "It's a beautiful country, just like Messina."

"Now this, my friends, is a gentle and considerate man!" the Knight Hunter exclaimed, giving Seif a playful shove.

He toppled over into the snow and jumped up quickly, wet and cold. He narrowed his eyes and Leila and sniffled, "Maybe I'll have to consider that an act of war."

They both laughed.
