[24 july] [inuyasha] come, these repeating ordinarities

NOTE TO ADMINS: URGH! I did write this before 12:00 (just barely before, actually), but my laptop's power went out just as I was sending it in and I had to re-write some parts of it! I'm really sorry it's late now! But, [livejournal.com profile] team7, if this isn't a good enough reason for it to be late, feel free to delete this.

Title: come, these repeating ordinarities
Day/Theme: july 24 | How does it feel when you're inside me?
Series: Inuyasha
Pairing: Kouga/Ayame
Rating: PG-13 (suggestive.. things)
Notes: I'm probably loosing some cool points for writing Inuyasha fic, but hey, it was what brought me into anime and manga, so I owe it this much at the very least.

Title is from the lyrics of "Lost Butterfly" by Rurutia, a song I associate a lot with these two. I normally give you the word count, but Word's being mean to me right now and won't let me use it.

I.
She played a game when she was young, a game all her own, and the only rule was that she could never stop playing it.

The goal was to find his face in anything she could; under the shimmering blue surface of the mountain streams, in the inky black hollows of rusting trees, and skirting amongst the leaves that quivered in the wind.

Even during her training, he was there, and Grandfather would scold her for daydreaming this much. But afterwards, he might ask her to explain what distracted her so.

"My future," she'd responded, twirling an iris blossom between two fingers.

Still such a hopeful child.

II.
In one possible future, Ayame lies beneath him, every sense she's ever known before suddenly feeling renewed. A pounding rumble is in her ears- is it simply the waterfall that veils the entrance to her cave, or perhaps the race of her heart?

Perhaps two hearts, but both are hers? Theirs?

Dreams have grown so familiar that she is almost afraid of hoping it's real. She cries, because she doesn't know if she can bear to say "I love you" to someone she'll only find to be gone come morning.

III.
Everything is possible, but fate has a way of leading you down a path that muddles your mind, makes you think you have no chance in hell at getting what you want.

Which is why he asks, "How could you wait so long for me?"

Ayame just smiles, inhaling his scent, petting the furs beneath them, tasting the humidity in the air of their cave.

"I've never wanted to die with dreams still in my head," she says, leaning towards him. "I want to die with memories, in my heart," --she places a finger between her breasts-- "on my soul," --she touches it to the center of his chest-- "etched onto my body. Forever." She holds his face.

"I decided waiting for life is worth more than dreaming it."
