December 2022 Prompts

For December, how about some prompts drawn from poetry?

Quotes from the poems of The Tales of Ise (Ise monogatari), more precisely; a collection of tiny narratives and associated poems revolving around the dashing ways of "that man", generally identified as Ariwara no Narihira -- who is named in a few of them. (and who may well have written some of the tales!)

These are drawn from Peter MacMillan's 2016 translation.

01. as the wild winds blow
02. so let me raise my voice and cry
03. if you can rise to the heavens
04. something ancient in our past
05. what calm would reign
06. the pain I feel today surpasses all
07. do not forget me till we meet again
08. my heart still brims with hope
09. the river flows forever on
10. this long summer day that never seems to end
11. only I am as I have always been
12. because they know nothing of the ways of the world
13. at the parting of spring
14. though I cannot believe in you
15. the further I travel, the more I long for the place from whence I have come
16. even if the petals scatter
17. must you disappear so soon?
18. in my chaotic heart of darkness
19. when I write, you protest. when I don't, you bear a grudge.
20. if we could meet for just a night
21. as distant as clouds in the sky
22. at last I understand how hard it is to wait
23. I so long to be alone with you
24. if we could gather a thousand autumn nights into one
25. the sorrow-filled sea of life
26. I cannot meet you in the real world
27. can't we wind back to the way we were
28. if I hold my silence a tempest rages in my heart
29. when I forget our fate
30. the heart has no colours to illustrate one's feelings
31. and already twilight is upon us
