Dimitri leaned back and took a breath of fresh morning air. He had a day, he was sure, maybe two, until someone discovered what he'd done this time.
That was enough time to move onward and find his next target. It wasn't easy; the empire's troops were getting wise. They'd all heard of soldiers, commanders, entire units getting slaughtered in the dead of night.
Glancing back at the carnage in the camp behind him, the still-smouldering fire...
He'd freed the horses.
Now he just needed to gather himself and his ghosts.
He had a day, he would not waste it.
