[October 10th] [Original] Auras’ Dance

Title: Auras’ Dance
Day/Theme: October 10: Astronomy domine
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Belle/Diana, Jonathan/Evan
Rating: PG-13
Author's Note: In the hall between worlds

A slamming door and a string of harsh words greeted Jonathan and Evan as they entered the darkened hallway. They quickly slipped into a niche, just in time to see Diana stomp down the hall, Belle close behind her. Jonathan pulled Evan in closer, arms around him to relax his tension. Evan hated it when mages fought.

“It will never work! There is no way to track the signature key for your world. I don’t care how strong your connection was to your home, the war would have damaged the key. You know as well as I do that magical wars wreak havoc on the entire system. It’s too dangerous!” Diana shouted, storming right past the boys’ hiding place without noticing them. She turned just inside their field of vision, staring Belle down.

“I know I have a powerful enough connection to recognize the core. I could find it.” Belle shot back, defiantly, clearly affronted by the questioning of her ability. Her wings were mantled, creating an eerie silhouette in the half-light, like a demon familiar looming behind her, ready to strike. Evan was holding his breath. Jonathan stroked his arm, watching the frantic dance of their auras as they fought, a faint haze of twisted blue, red and black.

“What if you end up missing, slipping timelines and ending up somewhere else? How will you find your way back? What if you get lost?” Diana still sounded angry, but there was a note of pleading in her voice as well.

“I won’t miss.” Belle replied, voice low and cold as the space between the stars. She looked like an archangel declaring judgment. They stared at each other, and Diana looked away. They parted ways with a suddenness that caused the air to chill. Evan started to cry silently.

“They look like stars, orbiting each other,” Jonathan mused, sadly, holding his sobbing love gently.

“Do stars usually fight like that?” Evan whispered, voice husky.

“Their gravity is slowly tearing them apart.”

“But they seemed happy before…”

“More like content.”

“I guess so.” Evan frowned. A silence followed, interrupted only the rustle of fabric as Evan eased himself onto Jonathan’s lap to be held closer.

“Are we so mean to each other?”

“What do you think?” Jonathan replied, nuzzling his shoulder.

“I think if you tried to leave…” Evan stopped and pressed his face against his chest.

“I’m not going anywhere, love.” And he didn’t.
