[Aug. 27] [Original] Bird's Eye View

Title: Bird's Eye View
Day/Theme: Aug. 27, 2010 "the whole unvisited world"
Series: original
Character/Pairing: Sakuya Altagracia and A. Y. Derringer
Rating: G

"What's that over there?" Sakuya leaned against the railing a little further than her companion thought was safe and pointed at a speck of a town on the horizon. In a pinch, he could probably pull her back if she started to fall. Secure in this assessment of his own abilities, Derringer took his hands out of the pockets of his cape-coat and decided to chat.
"That town?" he pointed at the place that had caught her eye. There were other towns visible below, but for some reason that one had attracted Sakuya.

"Yeah, that one."

"Silar. Nowhere special, you know." He shrugged. There was nothing wrong with indulging the quirky little lady. Frankly, Derringer found her beyond cute. Of course, he wasn't desperate or anything. He'd play it cool. He had no choice- she already knew the worst of his criminal record. She'd stayed beside him despite the problems. Then again, she'd stayed beside Grey too. They both had. Maybe it was just the result of a desperate situation.

"Oh. So...what about that river? Where does it come from? Where's it headed?"

"Are you going to ask me about absolutely everything we see?" he laughed. "Such boundless curiosity. Well, just keep watching and you'll see the place the river's running to soon enough."

"Which way should I look?" She turned her head this way and that, straining to see below the curving bottom of their vessel and capture more land in her eyes.

"Toward the right...and down. ...Suddenly it occurs to me it's difficult to explain which way's which to you when you can't keep good track of north and south and east and west." He found it a simple matter, but he had always been good with maps and directions. It obviously wasn't a problem for Grey either, what with this being his hobby ship and all.

"We'll fly over the ocean then?" Sakuya's eyes were bright at the thought.

"For a little while."

"Is the ocean beautiful?" she sighed. No doubt she already saw it that way in her mind.

"Wait and you'll see," Derringer advised, sneakily closing the gap and putting a steadying arm around her shoulders.
