Title: Wish

She does her schoolwork first, of course. Other than a break for dinner and cleaning up, though, she continues folding. She’s almost finished these, strings of coloured cranes hanging all about her room, and it’s been a project for long enough that she’d wish for it to be over and done, if that wouldn’t be a waste of a wish.

Still, she finishes them tonight, just before her mother really starts to get irritated, and scrambles into bed. She’s just tired enough to think that maybe the rustling she hears afterwards is her imagination- however it works, it can’t be like that, surely.

(Still. Just as it takes a time to fold a thousand cranes, it also takes time to the cranes to shake themselves out and carry the wish.)
