Falling Stars

When you were younger, you admired the stars.

You would look up to see them whenever you could, and sometimes even try to reach out to them and your parents could clearly see the light from the stars reflected in your eyes. Every single one of them gave you hope, and made you smile. You felt the stars were giving you your own place in the world by allowing you to create shapes within them. You wanted to protect anyone and everyone you possibly could, so they could look up to the night sky instead of looking down in fear and desperation, and see just how beautiful the stars were, too.

When you were a teenager, you didn't look at those stars much anymore. You didn't feel a need to, not really. They would guide you and help you become stronger so you could protect everyone, just as you were destined to do. They would also help your mother with the wars, and help your father with his future battles and his training as well. Everything was just fine. Everything was all right. Nothing could possibly go wrong, you thought at the time.

You never expected the stars to come crashing down on you, betraying everything you thought you knew.

And so, when you were confronted after everything, you felt hopeless, confused, infuriated, and murderous, all at once. Anyone and everyone who tried to go against you would suffer, you decided, because you didn't know what else to do. How could you trust anyone after what had happened? You didn't think it was possible.

Then, a certain woman tried to come near you. You didn't know what the hell she thought she was doing. Did she want to be killed? Did she expect you to do what ever she wanted you to? Her eyes seemed innocent, but they were fake. Her smile seemed bright, but it would fade away as soon as you followed her directions. Her words seemed truthful, but not really. She should have perished, should have been disposed of as quickly as possible, and she should have felt your sword pierce through her, but she stopped you.

And she put the stars back into your world again.

Over the years, you wondered how you could have ever wanted to hurt this woman. Her name was Tomoyo, you found out. You had told her your name, too, and she didn't run away at the sound of your heartless voice. She didn't think you were weak and give up on you the second you started crying in front of her. Instead, she gave you a home, food, new hopes and dreams and reasons for living.

You often wondered if that boy wanted to say he was sorry, somewhere deep down. You wondered constantly if that same boy who didn't care about the future or what would become of him wanted to apologize, for having to make Tomoyo risk her life just to save him. You wondered if that same boy, who wasn't truly you, would have had a chance to be someone else if it weren't for her. You wanted to know, but you wouldn't allow the stars to fall again just for that ghost of you. You never wanted to be that person again, and you knew you wouldn't have to worry about that, as long as Tomoyo was there.
