[Sept. 4] [James Bond] "Even the Stars Refuse to Shine"

Title: Even the Stars Refuse to Shine
Day/Theme: Sept. 4 - I wish
Series: James Bond
Character/Pairing: Bond
Rating: PG

Notes: Title from Howie Day's "Collide". Biblical quote from Matthew 24:29, NIV.

Star light, star bright
First star I see tonight
I wish I may and I wish I might
Have the wish I wish tonight.

He was too old for this.

But nothing - nothing in the whole world can bring someone back to their old faith like a tragedy.

The sky was rapidly darkening. It was almost unnatural - Bond thought, fleetingly, of the Crucifixion: and the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken. Even the earth itself could be thrown into mourning.

Star light.

There was no star.

Star bright.

And even if there were, how could any star pierce this blackness that was in the sky, and in his heart?

I wish I may, and I wish I might

He'd never asked for anything. If only the world were just - oh, but he knew, how he knew, that it wasn't - this one wish could be granted.

Have the wish I wish tonight.

Bring them back.

Please.

I know, I know sometimes I said I hated them. Maybe I did. But I need them anyway.

Please.

Star light?

But there were no stars. Not even one twinkle, not even one hint of hope in the dark sea above his head. Not one.

Mum.

Dad.

The boy fell to his knees by the window, and suddenly his eyes were wet. Dad would have hated him for crying, but now Dad was dead.

Dead.

And so was Mum. Dad would never hurt her again. Bond had never been much for the idea of heaven, but he knew that wherever his parents were, nobody would be allowed to hurt anybody anymore. But it no longer mattered where they were...they were gone.

He would not see them again.

And even the stars refused to shine.
