[January 21] [Avatar: The Last Airbender] The Meaning of Love
Title: The Meaning of Love
Day/Theme: January 21/this is the very ecstasy of love
Series: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Character/Pairing: Sokka/Toph
Rating: G
Word Count: 264
“Whose blood is that?” asked Sokka, looking up from the scroll he was reading.
“It’s mine, stupid,” Toph replied. “When was the last time we had a serious fight?”
“Hmmm. Well, what with the war being over so many years and the rebellions calming down… Are you all right?” He started trying to follow her into the back room.
“That was sarcasm, Sokka. And a rock gave me a tiny cut on my head. I’m fine. Let me clean myself up in private.”
Toph spent ten minutes in the back room and when she came back her face was clean, though she had messed up her hair considerably. The rest of her still needed work, especially her feet.
“Your clothes are covered in dirt,” he said, knowing even as it came out of his mouth that he might regret it.
She gave the floor a little stomp with her bare feet. “I’m an earthbender and I’m bored, what do you expect?”
“I can’t even tell what color they were this morning when you went out… Green?”
“You weren’t even looking,” she said as she walked closer to him. “You were reading some scroll about mechanics just like you are now.”
“How can you even tell?” he asked. But then he put the scroll down, and reached for her wrist to pull her against him. “You know, looking at you like this, I don’t think I’ve ever loved you as much as I do right now.”
“You’re very weird, Sokka,” she said. But she put her head on his shoulder and let him hold her.
