Phew! All 30 days complete!

"Dios, I wouldn't blame you for jumping ship now," Sasarai smiled faintly as he sighed and looked out the window. He had become a veritable prisoner of the rebel force congregating around the lake, and his staff had become bogged down in this captivity with him.

"You have that little faith in me, Sir?" Dios wondered asdly.

"No, it's nothing like that," the bishop assured his right hand man, "I just don't want you to suffer unnecessarily for the manner in which I've become entangle in this mess. Besides, you have Darren and Catrine to be thinking about. I would be crushed if anything were to happen to them while I was keeping you here."

"You're very kind," Dios smiled and lowered his head. "But I trust Kina and her family to do their best. I'm sure you've asked Nika this same question and her feelings must be the same as mine. I will not leave you, Your Excellency."

Sasarai turned to face his subordinate who approached and took the brunette's hand in his. He gazed intently into the bishop's wide, green eyes and saw his own careworn face reflected there.

"More than the nation itself, more than the church and its traditions, I have pledged myself- my heart and my loyalty- to you, Sir," Dios said earnestly.

Sasarai nearly held his breath as he listened. He knew that every word was true and he felt so undeserving.

"Sasarai, you are my country," Dios vowed, solemn and sincere, "The only land I wish to serve is the one that you have built."

Sasarai did not pull his hands away, but he had to shrink from this devoted gaze and so he looked down and to side, seeing Dios' well-shined army boots planted firmly on the wooden floor. To think that in ten years this dear man had come to love him this much.

"You deserve so much more than "thank you," but at this time, it's all I have to give," Sasarai replied quietly.

Dios dropped the bishop's hands and hugged the smaller man tight. "You know that for me that's enough."
